DetailsIn 1887 the hotel was built by Melbourne architects Reed, Henderson and Smart for Martha Nugent and Joseph Goslin in the style of a large house rather than a public building. The style of the structure is of interest for its reflection of Northern European Renaissance architecture, particularly from countries such as France and the Netherlands. The Queenscliff Hotel is of social significance for its association with wealthy Victorian society around the turn of the century who regarded Queenscliff as a fashionable summer holiday resort. Today, not much has changed, and the Queenscliff Hotel is still the place to stay in summer and winter.
The hotel now has 17 guest rooms, each with their own style, and most with their own ensuite. The rooms feature antique brass beds and carefully restored antique furniture. For those who have not stayed with us before, we wish to advise that there are no televisions, telephones and radios in our rooms. This means that you truly are getting away from everyone and everything.
